References to the Cyprus problem by the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, in his televised Easter Message on 27 April, 2019
“We seek a solution that is viable and functional, which will create prospects for a peaceful future for all the citizens of Cyprus,” the President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades said in his Easter Message that was televised on Easter eve, on 27 April.
Referring to the Cyprus problem, the President stressed that “the unacceptable status quo continues to be open would with all the adverse repercussions it entails, adding that it is for this reason that we seek, through initiatives and new ideas, the creation of conditions to resume a productive dialogue with a prospect for a successful outcome.
This determination, political will and sincere desire of the Greek Cypriot community for the reunification of our homeland, I communicated and continue to communicate at every opportunity I have, both to the UN Secretary General and during my international meetings, as I also did this week during my contacts with the Presidents of China and Russia.
I take this opportunity to invite, one more time, our Turkish Cypriot compatriots to realize that the unacceptable situation that exists today does not affect adversely only just one but both communities.
The demands for the imposition of the will of one community over the other through privileges that are not found in any other internationally recognised state, do not lead to a modern, viable and absolutely sovereign state,” said the President of the Republic.
For this reason and above everything else, what is required is respect for the basic principles of international law and the principles and values of the European Union, so that human rights and the creation of conditions for peaceful coexistence are safeguarded for everybody without exception.
