The Ministry of Interior, as the National Contact Point of the European Migration Network in Cyprus organizes the "Contingency Planning in The Context of Reception” conference, to discuss best practices for the reception of people in need of international protection, in conjunction with the launch of contingency planning on mass arrivals. The conference will take place on Thursday, May 9^th, at 8:30 a.m., at the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, “Andreas Patsalidis" Hall, in Lefkosia

The conference is aiming at enhancing refugee reception practices and, inter alia, the keynote speakers are the Secretary General of the Ministry of Migration Policy of Greece, Mr Miltiadis Klapas, representatives of the relevant authorities for the reception of refugees from the Netherlands and Romania and a representative of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO).

Opening remarks will be made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mr Kypros Kyprianou and by the Acting Director of the Civil Registry and Migration Department, Mr Makis Polydorou.

A panel discussion will follow, with the participation of the Head of the Asylum Service, Mr Stavros Christofi, UNHCR Protection Officer, Ms Olga Komiti, Civil Defense Chief, Mr Andreas Frantzis and Professor of the University of Nicosia and Director of the NGO CODECA, Mr Stefanos Spaneas.
