In a written statement, President Nicos Anastasiades expresses his satisfaction for the smooth election process, noting that the “elections were held in a climate of utmost political civility as it befits a European country”. The President also thanks all those who worked for the success of the elections.

Moreover, he congratulates those candidates who received the people’s mandate, pointing out that he is certain they will work together for the best interest of Cyprus. The President also thanks those who exercised their right to vote, noting however that “it is disturbing that a large share of our compatriots chose to abstain. A phenomenon that must be of serious concern at Cypriot and European level”.

President Anastasiades also expresses satisfaction over the increased participation of Turkish Cypriots and notes: “The elections are over. From tomorrow what matters is everyone’s cooperation, so that we can efficiently cope with any threats our country faces, to continue efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, and together proceed with the necessary reforms that will make our country worthy of the expectations of our people”.
