The Acting President of the Republic received the credentials of the Ambassador of Ethiopia
The Acting President of the Republic, President of the House of Representatives, Mr Demetris Syllouris, received the credentials of the Ambassador of Ethiopia, stationed in Rome, Ms Zenebu Tadesse Woldetsadik, during a formal ceremony held at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, July 2, 2019.
Presenting her credentials, Ambassador Woldetsadik, speaking in English, said:
“It is an honour and privilege for me to present to your Excellency the letter of credence by which the President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Her Excellency Ms Sahlework Zewide has appointed me to be Ambassador Extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of Cyprus, and also the letter of recall of my predecessor H.E. Ambassador Mulugeta Alemeseged.
First of all, please allow me to convey to your Excellency the greetings and best wishes of Her Excellency Sahilework Zewide, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and extend, through your Excellency, to the people of Cyprus wishes for a continued progress and prosperity.
Ethiopia and Cyprus have always enjoyed friendly relations. We share common views and have mutual understanding on multidimensional aspects. The Government of Ethiopia is always prepared to work with your Government to strengthen the existing relationship among the two countries.
Your Excellency,
Ethiopia is now Africa's fastest growing economy. The country is able to sustain strong economic growth in the last decade. The country has registered an average 11% GDP growth since 2005. In order to advance our development there is an urge from the side of my Government to enhance its relationship with the government and people of Cyprus.
The Government of Ethiopia has held strong convictions and solid trust on the Government of Cyprus and we must act together to further strengthen the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the areas of investment, tourism and trade.
Your Excellency ,
As it has been said repeatedly on different occasions and now I want to assure you that Ethiopia wishes to reaffirm its principled support to the efforts for the resumption of negotiations under UN auspices for a solution to the Cyprus Problem on the basis of International Law and in line with the UN Charter.

It is a pleasure for me to take up my duties as a non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus, and I pledge to your Excellency that I will devote my energy and efforts to further strengthen the existing friendly relationship and cooperation among the two countries. I eagerly look forward to work closely with your Excellency and your Government.
I wish to conclude by expressing my gratitude for the gracious and warm welcome that you extended to me and to my colleagues.
