The President of the Republic received the UK’s Minister for Europe
The President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, received today, at the Presidential Palace, the Minister for Europe of the United Kingdom, Mr Christopher Pincher.
After the meeting, the Minister told reporters, among other things, that with the President they had a very fruitful discussion on issues that Cyprus is facing.
“I discussed with him the importance of moving forward to achieve a settlement” between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, Mr Pincher said, adding that “I made it very clear that Great Britain deplores any drilling in the waters close to Cyprus and supports the right of Cyprus to extract oils in its EEZ. Most importantly that wealth should be extracted for the benefit of all Cypriots on the island.”
He added that they also discussed Brexit, pointing out that “whatever happens on the 31st of October the relationship between Cyprus and the UK is strong, it is developing, and I look forward to working hard with my friends and colleagues here to deepening and strengthening our relationship.
