Coronavirus screening measures in place at checkpoints
The implementation of the measures taken by the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, to screen citizens at checkpoints for coronavirus, was inspected today by the Director of Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health, Dr Elisavet Constantinou.
Specifically, the measures decided upon and implemented include, inter alia, a brief questionnaire to citizens entering the government-controlled areas, to determine whether they had traveled to China in the last 14 days and whether they had been in contact with a confirmed or suspected case of coronavirus infection. In addition, a brochure with information and contact details is distributed, in case a citizen presents symptoms.
Police Officers at checkpoints also have regular contact with both the Department of Epidemiological Surveillance and the Ambulance Service of the Ministry of Health, for further guidance and more specialized screening, if necessary.
It is noted that yesterday, the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, and the Turkish Cypriot leader, Mr. Mustafa Akinci, were briefed by the members of the bi-communal Technical Committee on Health about the actions taken by the two communities, in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization.
