Council of Ministers: The age limit for the administration of the booster/3rd dose is reduced to 60 and new vulnerable groups are added

The Council of Ministers approved today the recommendation of the Health Minister, Mr Michalis Hadjipantela, regarding the new population groups, which will be given priority for vaccination with the booster/3rd dose of the vaccine against COVID-19. This effort aims to shield the groups of population whose immune response decreases after a specific period of time, based on scientific evidence. Until October 14, the 3rd dose has been administered to 29,897 beneficiaries.

Specifically, the Council of Ministers decided to give priority to the following population groups:

1. People aged 60 and over: Vaccinations will be carried out either at the walk-in vaccination centres without prior appointment or with appointment through the Vaccination Portal. The exact start date of vaccination for people aged 60 and over will be announced in the following days.

2. Vulnerable groups: The vaccinations will be carried out at the Vaccination Centres that operate all over Cyprus, after the arrangement of an appointment by telephone. The booster/3rd dose will be administered to people, regardless of age, who fall into the following groups:

  • People with severe chronic respiratory disease
  • People with severe chronic cardiovascular disease
  • People with severe chronic kidney disease
  • People with severe chronic liver disease
  • People with severe chronic neurological disease
  • People with Diabetes Mellitus and other endocrine diseases
  • People with hemoglobinopathies.

It is reminded that the booster/3rd dose is administered with an mRNA technology vaccine (Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna) and given that a period of six (6) months has elapsed from the date of vaccination with the 2nd dose.
