Address by the President of the House of Representatives, Ms Annita Demetriou, on the occasion of the 2021 holiday season lunch in honour of Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Cyprus
I wish to thank you for having accepted my invitation to attend this festive lunch, in view of the upcoming holiday season and to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent relations and cooperation that have been fostered over the years between the House of Representatives and the Diplomatic corps in Cyprus.
Our common will to take these relations a step further, eventually through joint initiatives and actions, was reaffirmed during my fruitful meetings with you all, or almost all. I seize the opportunity to stress, once again, my sincere will and intention to work with you in this direction. I, personally and the House will always be open to your suggestions, with the aim of further increasing and consolidating the added value of inter-parliamentary cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy.
In this context, the Republic of Cyprus, fully embraces its role as a bridge of dialogue and cooperation between Europe and our neighbouring countries, so that peace and prosperity may finally prevail inour turbulent region. In this respect I must also express our deep gratitude for your long-standing support in our efforts to reach a just and viable settlement of the Cyprus problem. One that will reunite our island and contribute significantly to the stability and security in our part of the world.
In the same vein, the House aims at its active participation and substantial contribution regarding core issues of global interest, particularly human rights, gender issues and climate change to name a few.
Your Excellencies, dear friends,
I thank you once again for joining me today and I wish to all of you, your families and loved ones, good health, happiness and prosperity for the Festive Season.
Let us now raise our glasses for a toast to the friendly ties between our countries and the deepening of our cooperation for the progress and wellbeing of our peoples.
