Special Debate in the House of Representatives themed "Women's participation in international peace and security: From theory to practice"
On the initiative of the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women and Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA), Ms. Irene Charalambides, a special debate, on the theme "Women's participation in international peace and security: From theory to practice", will take place on Monday, 6 November, 2023, in the Plenary Hall of the House of Representatives.
The President of the House of Representatives, Ms. Annita Demetriou, as well as the First Lady, Ms. Filippa Karsera Christodoulidou will address the meeting. The President of the OSCE PA, Ms. Pia Kauma, will also address participants through a video message.
Presentations will follow by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Ms. Anna Koukkides-Prokopiou, the Ambassador of France, Ms. Salina Grenet-Catalano and the former Permanent Representative of the Republic of Cyprus to the OSCE, Ambassador Elena Rafti, as keynote speakers.
Participants include incumbent and former female Ministers, Members of Parliament, Ambassadors and other members of the Diplomatic corps, academics, as well as representatives of international organizations and civil society.
The topic of the special Debate was chosen in light of the rapid developments on the international political scene, as well as a recent debate in the UN Security Council on the same theme.
