Voting commenced for the election of Members of the European Parliament, of Local Government and of Members of School Boards at 7 a.m.

698,896 persons in total have the right to vote.

All ballot boxes in all 1,847 polling stations, which are located in the Republic of Cyprus, as well as in the 10 polling stations in Greece, were opened.

The ballot box in Belgium is expected to open at 9 a.m., Cyprus time, and the ballot boxes in the United Kingdom are expected to open at 10 a.m., Cyprus time.

Voting commenced smoothly, without any problems, and will continue until 12 noon. After a one-hour interval, voting will recommence at 1 p.m. and will end at 6 p.m., when the ballot boxes will close at all polling stations, both in the Republic of Cyprus and abroad.

It is noted that only in exceptional cases, the presiding officer of each polling station may extend the voting hours until midnight at the latest if a large number of voters are still waiting outside to cast their vote. 

As Chief Returning Officer, I urge all voters to come to the polling stations to exercise their right to vote. I wish you all a good vote.
