The Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture in collaboration with Dance House Lefkosia, announce the names of the artists selected to participate in the Dance Residency Programme of the State Gallery of Contemporary Art - Majestic, taking place during the period May - October 2024:

2. Belinda Papavasiliou / Fisherwomxn*
The proposals were selected by the Program’s Planning Committee (Elena Panagiotou, Elena Antoniou and Maria Kamberis), among a total of 10 participation proposals, submitted in response to the relevant Open Call.
The committee unanimously selected the proposals based on the scores obtained with the following evaluation criteria:
The Programme aims to promote synergies between the arts as an integral part of the State Gallery programme, the promotion of the multimodality of the artworks in the permanent exhibition and their alternative interpretations, the engagement of different audiences and the promotion of the work of contemporary Cypriot artists.
Three public activities will take place during each of the two residencies: a seminar/participatory workshop, a discussion/lecture and a performance (in progress).

When the hostess gets quiet… …: Performance in progress
“In “when the hostess gets quiet…” I invite you to a walk which we will take together and a walk you will take on your own. I am given the opportunity to host you for a bit, in the space that hosted me earlier and to share with you paths that I followed here; in between rooms, paintings, doors, sculptures and stairs”.
The work is a work-in-progress that stems from the performer’s participation in the Dance Residency Program at the Gallery. Through creative movement and writing, she had the opportunity to interact with the artworks of the permanent exhibition and approach her body as a channel of communication between the exhibits located in the same space.
Duration: 40 minutes
Participation is free.
Limited number of participants (10 per performance), by order of priority.
Reservations required, via the link: https://forms.gle/Skpimh9DPGSqiyAk6

Carried away: Workshop
The workshop is offered within the framework of the Dance Residency Program at the State Gallery, in which the performer had the opportunity to explore her relationship with the artworks in the permanent show. Through proposed tasks used during the residency, she will dedicate time with the participants to observe works from the permanent exhibition and notice any possible activations or associations occurring within them. They will strive to give themselves space to experience the artworks through their bodies, personal experiences, and imagination. Using the artworks as a starting point and as interlocutor, they will be led into personal creative explorations through movement and writing.
Workshop duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes
The workshop is open to dancers of all levels and to individuals with an interest in creative movement and the body.
Limited number of participants (10), by order of priority.

Self-understanding through engagement with arts and creative practices: Discussion
Engagement with the arts potentially leads someone to a temporary escape from the here-and-now and «transporting” them to the past, future or a parallel scenario. When the individual returns to the here-and-now, something has changed inside them, to a smaller or bigger degree. Through this process, arts can influence how we understand ourselves and the people around us and to become reference points in our personal and collective lives. Participants in the discussion will share relevant personal experiences and listen to the thoughts of artists who use their practices as a means of understanding themselves and their experiences. The discussion will be further enriched with the participation of psychologists who are interested in the dynamic relation between cultural objects and identity.
Discussion duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Free entrance. No reservation required.
