The Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and Theatro Ena announce the opening of the Summer Movie Marathon 2024, which takes place, as every summer, at the Nicosia Open Air Cinema “Constantia”.

The Marathon opens on July 10 with the film “The Old Oak”, directed by Ken Loach and written Paul Laverty. The second screening of the film will take place on August 9 with the support of the UNHCR Country Office in Cyprus.

This year, the audience will have the opportunity to watch award-winning films across a range of genres. Social dramas such as the films: “Matria” (12/7 and 11/8), “Fremont” (2/8 and 1/9), “3000 Nights” (21/7 and 22/8), “Sonbahar / Autumn” (8/8 and 7/9), comedies, “7 Reasons to Run Away” (from Society (11/7 and 10/8), “The Best Families” (25/7 and 24/8), “Un Tour Chez Ma Fille / Knock, Knock, It’s Mom!” (1/8 and 31/8), fantasy movies, such as “La Chimera” (13/7 and 14/8), “Les Cinq Diables / The Five Devils” (18/7) in collaboration with Queer Wave Film Festival, “Rémi Sans Famille / Remi, Nobody’s Boy” (31/7 and 30/8), and many others.

Marking 50 years from the Turkish invasion in Cyprus, the programme includes films by Cypriot directors, which focus on the events that divided our island and the consequences of the division, such as “The Last Homecoming” (20/7 and 21/8), directed by Korinna Avraamidou and the documentary “Sharing an Island” (14/7 and 15/8), directed by Danae Stylianou.

The programme also includes two successful Greek productions, the award-winning film by Eva Nathena “Murderess” (19/7 and 18/8) based on the novel by Alexandros Papadiamantis, and “Black Stone” (17/8 and 8/9), directed by Spyros Jacovides.

Special selection for our young cinephiles is the animated film “Mystery at Animal Farm” (26/7 and 25/8).
