Parallel events during the 14th International Short Film Festival of Cyprus

The Cyprus International Short Film Festivalpromises yet another year packed with short films and big adventures - on and off the big screen! Whether it’s the innovative introduction of Cinema Therapy or the fascinating competition programs, educational events as well as an unforgettable freak show, ISFFC has something in store for everyone who loves film, art, and great entertainment.

Come October 12th to the 18th, we are all ready to be inspired and travel across the globe through the power of the big screen.

A list of this year’s parallel events below:

Cinema therapy | Cinematherapy

Sunday 13/10, 17:30 – 19:30, Old Vinegar House

Introduced for the first time by the ISFFC, this event merges the art of cinema with psychotherapy. This innovative therapeutic approach utilises film screenings as a medium of fostering self-awareness and problem-solving, drawing on the ancient art of storytelling as an educational resource. By watching a film, viewers connect with the characters and situations that reflect their own experiences, while finding a safe space to explore and process their emotions.

In this year’s Cinematherapy session, the short film Daphne, directed by Tonia Mishiali, will be screened, which is not just a film, but a versatile tool for cinematherapy. After the screening, a discussion will follow between the filmmaker, Tonia Mishiali, and the lead actress, Niovi Charalambous, under the guidance of Denise Nikolakou, integrative psychotherapist and head of the Cinematherapy programme of Drama International Short Film Festival (DISFF).

Contemporary Mirrors

Sunday 13/10 , 22:30, Dusty Monkey

Short documentaries are contemporary mirrors of the world we live in. They empower us, filmmakers, with creative freedom to explore, research and experiment, and originate from our personal desire and need to become witnesses to the world around us. They are a testament of our urgency as filmmakers to bring truth to the big screen, encourage change and promote critical thinking!

Curated by Alexia Roider and Ioakim Mylonas.

Fatherhood

Tuesday 15/10, 22:30, Dusty Monkey

Traditional expectations of fatherhood are challenged and redefined. Without set rules or expectations, individuals are free to explore new paths to fatherhood and relationships. This change allows for greater flexibility and creativity in shaping one's identity as a father and encourages men to explore new ways of being involved in their children's lives.
