The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, addressed the Gala Dinner organised by Pavlos Kontides to support the #TowardsLA Athletic Responsibility Programme
The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, on Saturday, 1st Feburary 2025, addressed the Gala Dinner organised by Pavlos Kontides to support the #TowardsLA Athletic Responsibility Programme, which aims to assist athletes in order to increase their chances to participate in the Los Angeles (LA) Olympic Games.
In his address, the President of the Republic of Cyprus said, inter alia: “Pavlos’ initiative reflects his commitment to sports. His greatness, his genuine love for sports, his dedication to upgrading the field and strengthening our sports community led him to the establishment of the Athletic Responsibility Program. By mobilising sponsors and supporters, this program plays a decisive role in the last two Olympic and Paralympic Games, significantly increasing the number of team members, while providing financial and technical support to participating athletes.
In this regards, Pavlos Kontides emerges as a role model to be exemplified, the true embodiment of the Olympic spirit and values. His perseverance and endurance in the sport of sailing has led him to win countless international medals and distinctions. The pride of our nation rises with him each time he climbs atop the podium of athletic events he participates in worldwide, most notably in London and Paris in 2012 and 2024 respectively. Pavlos’ outstanding achievements have placed our small country to the top of the global sports landscape. At the same time, acknowledging the value and positive impact of his personal successes, our champion has transformed these accomplishments into a contribution to his fellow athletes and the broader community. By following this path, he has embodied the values of fair play, noble competition and excellence, emerging as an exemplary athlete and, mainly, human being”.
