Statement by the Minister of Transport Mrs Vassiliki Anastassiadou after the successful launch of Hellas Sat 4 from Kourou Space Centre in French Guiana
A few minutes after the successful launch of Hellas Sat 4, from Kourou Space Centre, in French Guiana, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Mrs. Vassiliki Anastassiadou, made the following statement:
‟I would like to congratulate Hellas Sat for the successful launch of Hellas Sat 4. A new chapter in the space history of Cyprus and Greece has been written today.
Apart from the geopolitical, technological and commercial benefits, that the launch of Hellas Sat 4 has to offer, we are overwhelmed by a sense of national pride seeing the flags of Cyprus and Greece fly high on this payload fairing.
The launch of Hellas Sat 3 in June 2017 and today’s launch of Hellas Sat 4, establish an extended and even more diversified satellite footprint with substantially higher capacity offerings in Europe, Middle East and Africa. This is instrumental in reinforcing Cyprus’ position as an attractive satellite communications centre.
The presence of Hellas Sat in Cyprus since 2001, when Cyprus and Greece jointly authorised Hellas Sat, has placed Cyprus on the global satellite map, and was, without any doubt, a step forward in our long – term policy goal to make Cyprus a regional centre for telecommunications.
In conclusion, I would like to sincerely thank Hellas-Sat CEO, Mr. Christodoulos Protopapas, and all those who have worked tirelessly and assiduously behind the scenes to make this launch a reality. From our part, we are committed to making every necessary effort to support and facilitate the activities of the satellite operators in Cyprus”.
