Remarks by the Presidential Commissioner Mr Photis Photiou at the reception on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran
I am delighted to join you this evening to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and to convey, on behalf of the President and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus, warmest congratulations and sincere best wishes.
Cyprus and Iran are bound by traditional ties of friendship and have long established a close co-operation at the bilateral and multilateral level. It is my sincere conviction that our relations will continue to prosper and become even more robust in the years to come.
Allow me to take this opportunity to also thank Iran for its support to our efforts to end Turkish occupation and reunify our island through a viable and comprehensive settlement, in line with the relevant UN Security council resolutions and EU law, values and principles. A solution that will safeguard the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Cyprus, without foreign guarantees and intervention. It is of utmost importance that reunified Cyprus continues to playing its role as a purveyor of stability, prosperity and a crossroad for cooperation in the wider Middle East region.
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
On this celebratory occasion, permit me to express anew our heartfelt wishes and for the continued prosperity of Iran and its people, as well as to the further strengthening of the relations and cooperation between our two countries and peoples.
Thank you.
