Allow me to begin by expressing my sincere thanks and gratitude to my dear friend, His Majesty King Abdullah, for hosting our Second Trilateral Summit and for the warm welcome and gracious hospitality extended to our delegation. 

Today’s meeting clearly reflects the importance we attach to further expanding and deepening our synergies to the benefit of our countries, our peoples and the region as a whole.

In this regard, the signing of the Memoranda of Understanding in the field of Education and between our respective Investment Promotion Agencies, as well as the first Trilateral Business Forum taking place today, constitute important developments in fully exploring the important opportunities between ourcountries, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, trade and tourism.

At the same time, I consider that our cooperation has reached a stage of maturity where consideration should be given in dynamically moving forward our partnership.

In this regard, I believe that the decision we have taken to establish a Permanent Secretariat in Cyprus will serve the further development of our trilateral mechanism with the aim of ensuring that both its potential and momentum are fully exploited andutilised.  

During today’s meeting we will also discuss pressing regional issues, during which I have no doubt that we will once again reiterate our joint commitment to work together in order to achieve our common goal of promoting peace, stability, security, growth and prosperity for our societies and the region as a whole.

This approach is based on our common belief of the need to achieve political solutions in accordance with international law and in full respect of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of states, as well as of good neighbourly relations.   

Our three countries also share the same position that addressing the effect of the refugee crisis and migration flows requiressolidarity and responsibility sharing.

In this respect, I wish to assure Your Majesty that we will continue working with our EU partners so that Jordan is supported both politically and economically in addressing the consequences of the refugee crisis and the heavy burden this places on its economy, structures and society.

In parallel, we will continue to actively advocate for the strengthening of EU - Jordan relations, including engaging more on regional and foreign policy issues.   

Lastly, as it is expected, I will inform my counterparts on the latest developments as regards the efforts to resume the negotiating process on the Cyprus Problem, with the aim to reach a settlement that will establish a functional, viable, truly sovereign and independent state; free from military troops or guarantees by any third country.

And taking this opportunity, allow me to express again to Your Majesty my deep appreciation for Jordan’s principled stance on the Cyprus problem, in line with international law, the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and the principles upon which the EU is founded.     

Similarly, dear Prime Minister, my friend Alexis, Greece and the Greek people have always stood shoulder to shoulder with us. On behalf of all Cypriots, I reiterate our deep appreciation and gratitude.
