This yearʼs celebration of Europe Day in Cyprus provided the opportunity for a festive setting that was enjoyed by both adults and children at the Limassol Multifunctional Seaside Park (Molos) on Saturday, 11 May 2019, afternoon.

Europe Day is an opportunity to bring citizens closer to Europe and its institutions.

This year's theme is about choosing our future, in view of the European elections on 23-26 May 2019.

The European Parliament Office in Cyprus, the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, the Press and Information Office (PIO), the Limassol Municipality, the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK) and the Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC) Limassol, with the support of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK) have worked together to combine knowledge and entertainment in the most enjoyable way, bringing Europe closer to its citizens.

This year's event hosted a rich and diverse program of cultural and artistic events, fun and educational activities for children and youth, as well as a live radio program with Active Radio 107.4 & 102.5. At the same time, visitors had the opportunity to explore how the EU is affecting their daily life, by being informed on the various European programs on education, employment and funding. Furthermore, Embassies of EU member states offered interesting information about their countries as well as traditional gastronomy and beverages.

Europe Day is celebrated every year throughout the EU on 9 May. The date marks the anniversary of the historic speech given in Paris on the 9th of May 1950 by the French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman. His proposal for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would prevent war between Europeʼs nations, is considered to be the beginning of what is now the EU. Europe Day gives us the opportunity to remember and celebrate the ideas and values on which the EU is founded, and all that unites us as Europeans.
