Travel directive for the Republic of Korea (South Korea) issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The World Health Organization declared the emergence of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a public health emergency of international concern. New cases of COVID-19 are also appearing in the Republic of Korea with a dramatic rise recently. Up until now (24/02/2020) more than 750 cases have been verified, the majority of them has been found in Gyeongsang region (city Daegu and Cheongdo county) in the south-east part of the country.

Cypriot citizens found temporarily or living permanently in the Republic of Korea are requested to avoid visiting Gyeongsang area, if not necessary, because of the increase of the numbeer of the verified cases.

The citizens of the Republic of Cyprus that are currently in Korea are requested to be careful and watch the local and international mass media with regard to the developments related to COVID-19, to follow the related directives issued by the authorities of the Republic of Korea and ensure they take the essential self-protection measures, as recommended by the authorities of the Republic of Korea and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus.

The Republic of Cyprus has no diplomatic or consular representation within the Republic of Korea (the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus to the People's Republic of China is also accredited for the Republic of Korea). Consequently, the possibilities of the Republic to provide direct consular assistance to Cypriot citizens found in the country, when deemed necessary, is especially limited.

The citizens of the Republic of Cyprus that are currently in the Republic of Korea are requested to contact the Embassy of the Republic in Beijing to inform the Consular Department and register themselves in the related list, so that they can be directly informed on issues of consular assistance or any other issues the Embassy is involved in.
In the event of an emergency, Cypriot citizens can contact the following phone numbers and/or visit the website www.oikade.gov.cy in order to register themselves in the voluntary registration system of overseas Cypriots that are currently abroad for any reason.
