Τhe new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (resident in Brasilia), Mr Haralambos Kafkarides, presented his credentials to President Tabaré Vázquez, during a ceremony held in the presence of Uruguay’s Foreign Minister, Mr Rodolfo Nin Novoa, in Montevideo, on November 29, 2018.

Ambassador Kafkarides conveyed the greetings of President Nicos Anastasiades, and highlighted the strong level of bilateral relations between the two countries.

During a following conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Rodolfo Nin Novoa, Ambassador Kafkarides expressed appreciation for Uruguay's positive stance on the Cyprus question, as demonstrated both by Uruguay’s participation in UNFICYP in the past and during its recent term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council 2016-2017).

On his part, Foreign Minister Nin Novoa expressed his government's willingness to further strengthen the cooperation between the two countries, the field of trade in particular.
