Ο εκπρόσωπος του ΓΓ του ΟΗΕ ενημερώνει για την επίσκεψη στην Κύπρο του Βοηθού ΓΓ αρμόδιου για Ειρηνευτικές Επιχειρήσεις
Κατά την τακτική ενημέρωση των εκπροσώπων των διεθνών μέσων μαζικής ενημέρωσης στην έδρα των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, στη Νέα Υόρκη, στις 27 Φεβρουαρίου 2018, ο Εκπρόσωπος του Γενικού Γραμματέα του ΟΗΕ κ. Stéphane Dujarric ανέφερε ότι ο Βοηθός Γενικός Γραμματέας αρμόδιος για τις Ειρηνευτικές Επιχειρήσεις κ. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, ο οποίος βρίσκεται σε περιοδεία στις διάφορες ειρηνευτικές επιχειρήσεις στη Μέση Ανατολή, ολοκλήρωσε την επίσκεψή του στον Λίβανο και πως επόμενος σταθμός του είναι η Κύπρος.
Όπως ο κ. Dujarric ανέφερε, ο κ. Jean-Pierre Lacroix φθάνει την Τετάρτη 28 Φεβρουαρίου στην Κύπρο για διμερή επίσκεψη, όπου θα συναντηθεί με κυβερνητικούς αξιωματούχους, τοπικές Αρχές και εκπροσώπους κοινοτήτων. Κατά τη διάρκεια της επίσκεψής του θα συναντηθεί επίσης με μέλη της ειρηνευτικής δύναμης των Ηνωμένων Εθνών, μέλη της διπλωματικής κοινότητας, την Διερευνητική Επιτροπή Αγνοουμένων και θα μιλήσει σε εκδήλωση για την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα της Γυναίκας.

«The Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Mr Jean-Pierre Lacroix, today concluded the Lebanon leg of his wider Middle East tour to visit UN Peacekeeping missions, in which he visited the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
During his three days in Lebanon, Mr Lacroix met with President Michel Aoun; Speaker Nabih Berri; Prime Minister Saad Hariri; the Lebanese Armed Forces Commander, General Joseph Aoun; and the Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim. He saw first-hand UNIFIL’s work alongside the Lebanese Armed Forces in maintaining calm and stability in the UN Mission’s area of operations.
Before leaving, Mr Lacroix praised the continuous support and cooperation received from the Government of Lebanon in implementing UNIFIL’s mandate.
The next stop on Mr Lacroix’ mission will be Cyprus, where he will arrive tomorrow (Feb. 28, 2018) for a two-day visit to the island. Mr Lacroix will meet with government officials, local authorities and community representatives.
During his visit, he will also meet with UN peacekeepers, members of the diplomatic community, the Committee on Missing Persons and speak at an event to mark International Women’s Day”.
